Beginner Contra & Square Dance Series
John C. Campbell Folk School

Tuesdays, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Admission: Free Free introduction to Contra, Square and Circle Dances to recorded or live music. Held almost every Tuesday night from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Keith House. Beginners, couples and singles are welcome. Please arrive promptly at 7:00 pm. May Pole Dance

12 noon at the May Pole in the field behind the Dining Hall Location: May Pole Watch the graceful costumed Rural Felicity Garland Dancers in this traditional dance around the maypole as they weave colorful banners in an intricate pattern. They'll be accompanied by Sticks in the Mud Morris Dancers Band.

This special benefit dance will feature a variety of local callers and musicians as well as a performance by Sticks in the Mud Morris Dancers. Beginners, singles and couples welcome. Beginners should come promptly at 8 pm, since we start with easier dances and more teaching. $10 (under 18 $7)

16th Annual Christian Harmony Shape-Note Singing
John C. Campbell Folk School

10:30 am - 3:00 pm Pot luck "Dinner On the Grounds" 12:30 pm Admission to the singing is free. Location: Music Studio, Davidson Hall Please bring Christian Harmony song books and a covered dish to share. The Folk School will supply coffee, iced tea, ice, plates, cups and plastic utensils. Song books are for sale in the Craft Shop. A few copies will be available to borrow at the singing. Originally published in 1866, William Walker's Christian Harmony is the oldest seven shape collection to have remained in continuous use, primarily in Western North Carolina and North Georgia. The Folk School's annual singing draws more than 70 singers from four states. Please note - for a more in-depth experience, the Folk School is also offering a weekend class in Shape Note Singing from Friday, July 11 to Sunday July 13.
